Terms of Service
Version 2026-10-03 · These terms are an agreement between you and Qondi ("we", "us"), the business described in section 1.
Important terms we must point out to you (Consumer Protection Act, section 49). Please read these before you agree:
- Qondi is an AI tutor and it can make mistakes. Always check important answers against your textbook, notes or teacher. See section 5.
- Qondi does not guarantee marks or exam results. See section 5.
- Paid plans renew every month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in the app. See section 7 and our Subscriptions, Cancellation & Refunds policy.
- If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you. See section 3.
- Our liability to you is limited, as far as the law allows. See section 13.
- You take responsibility for what you upload. It must be yours to use, and you agree to cover certain losses if it isn't. See sections 8 and 14.
- We may suspend your account if these terms are seriously broken. See section 12.

2. Agreeing to these terms
You accept these terms when you tick the box and create an account. If you don't agree, please don't use Qondi.
We may update these terms. If a change affects you in an important way, we will tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect and ask you to accept the new version. If you don't want to accept it, you may cancel your account before the change takes effect, and we will refund any paid time you haven't used.
These terms work together with our Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use & Academic Honesty policy and Subscriptions, Cancellation & Refunds policy.
3. Who can use Qondi
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian must give consent before we process your information (Protection of Personal Information Act, section 35). They also agree to these terms on your behalf. We will email them a link to confirm. You can't use Qondi until they do. Any paid plan for a learner under 18 must be bought by the parent or guardian. More in Children & Parents.
- Schools, NGOs and sponsors who give learners access sign a separate agreement with us.
4. Your account
Give us true, up-to-date information. Keep your password private, and don't share your account. Accounts are for one person. Tell us straight away at hello@qondi.co.za if you think someone else has used your account.
5. What Qondi is, and what it isn't
Qondi is an educational support service. It explains work, asks you questions, makes study guides and practice tests, and marks your answers. It uses artificial intelligence. See How Qondi's AI Works.
- Qondi can be wrong. AI can make mistakes in facts, working, marking or memos. Check anything important, especially before a test or exam.
- Qondi is not your school or university. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Basic Education, the IEB, Umalusi, or any school, university or college. We mention curricula and course codes only to describe what Qondi can help with.
- No guaranteed results. Learning depends on many things. We don't promise any particular mark, pass or admission.
- Not professional advice or counselling. Qondi is not a substitute for a teacher, doctor, psychologist, lawyer or financial advisor. If you are in distress, please use the support lines in the app or contact someone you trust.
6. Plans, prices and payment
- Prices are shown in South African rand on our pricing page and in the app. They include VAT if we are VAT-registered.
- Payments are processed by PayFast. We never see or store your full card details.
- There is no free plan. A free demo lesson lets you try Qondi first, and every new account gets a free trial of Scholar, with no card needed and no automatic charge (see Subscriptions).
- Scholar and Matric & Varsity Pro are monthly subscriptions: you are charged when you subscribe and then every month on the same date until you cancel.
- The Semester Pass is a single payment for a fixed number of months. It does not renew.
- Plans include fair-use limits (for example, a number of tutor messages each month). These are shown before you subscribe and on your Plan page. When you reach a limit, you can wait for the next month or upgrade.
- We may change prices. We will tell you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription, and you may cancel before it does.
7. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel at any time on your Plan page. There is no cancellation fee. Your paid plan keeps working until the end of the month you've paid for, and then it ends. You keep your lessons and notes.
7-day money-back on your first payment: if you cancel within 7 days of first subscribing to a paid plan, we refund that payment in full. This also meets your cooling-off right under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (section 44). Full details are in our Subscriptions, Cancellation & Refunds policy. Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under the Consumer Protection Act.
8. Your content
"Your content" means what you put into Qondi: notes, documents, photos, screenshots, questions and answers.
- You own your content. You give us permission (a licence) to store, copy and process it only to provide Qondi to you: for example, to send it to our AI provider to get a reply, to search your notes, or to create study guides. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from routine backups, which are cleared on a schedule (see the Privacy Policy).
- We do not use your content to train AI models, and our AI provider does not either under its commercial terms.
- You confirm that you have the right to use what you upload for your own study. See Copyright & Takedown.
- Please don't upload other people's personal information. For example, a screenshot showing a classmate's name and marks.
- Screenshots and snips can capture anything on your screen, so check them before you send them.
9. Using Qondi fairly
You agree to follow our Acceptable Use & Academic Honesty policy. In short: use Qondi to learn, not to cheat. Don't misuse the service, and don't upload anything illegal or harmful.
10. Our intellectual property
The Qondi name, logo, design and software belong to us or our licensors. You may use the explanations, study guides, practice tests and memos that Qondi creates for you for your own learning. You may also share them with your study group, teacher or family. You may not resell Qondi, copy the service, or scrape it.
11. Keeping Qondi running
We work hard to keep Qondi available, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. It may be unavailable because of maintenance, outages at our providers, load-shedding or other causes outside our control. We may improve, change or stop features. If we permanently stop a paid feature that is central to your plan, we will refund the unused part of your payment.
12. Suspension and closing accounts
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Your data.
We may suspend or close an account if the account holder seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, puts others at risk, or uses Qondi unlawfully. Where it's safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we close a paid account without good reason, we will refund the unused part of your payment.
13. Our liability to you
Please read carefully. This limits your rights.
- Qondi is provided to help you learn, and we provide it with reasonable care and skill. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for loss caused by relying on an AI answer, explanation or mark without checking it, including a lower mark or a missed deadline.
- To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or R500 if you haven't paid us anything.
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability where the law doesn't allow it. That includes liability for gross negligence, fraud, or anything the Consumer Protection Act doesn't let us exclude (for example section 51).
14. If your uploads cause a problem
Please read carefully.
If you upload material that you had no right to upload, and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable losses from that claim. This applies only to the extent the claim was caused by your breach of these terms, and only as far as the law allows. If you are under 18, this doesn't apply to you personally.
15. Complaints and disputes
Please talk to us first at hello@qondi.co.za. We aim to reply within 5 business days.
If we can't resolve it, you can contact:
- the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO): cgso.org.za;
- the National Consumer Commission: thencc.org.za;
- for privacy complaints, the Information Regulator: inforegulator.org.za.
South African law governs these terms. You may also approach a South African court with jurisdiction.
16. Electronic communications
You agree that we may communicate with you electronically, by email and in the app, and that these messages count as "in writing" (Electronic Communications and Transactions Act). Legal notices to us must be sent to 516 Belmont Road, Rondebosch, Cape Town, 7700 and hello@qondi.co.za.
17. General
These terms and the policies they refer to are the whole agreement between us about Qondi. If a court finds any part invalid, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a right immediately, we haven't given it up. We may transfer this agreement to a business that takes over Qondi. If we do, we'll tell you, and your rights won't be reduced.
