Free trial
- Every new account gets a 7-day free trial of Scholar, once per person. It starts when you finish setting up your account. If you're under 18, it starts when your parent or guardian gives consent.
- No card and no payment details are needed, and nothing is ever charged automatically. When the trial ends, your account simply goes back to having no plan. Your courses, notes and guides are kept, and you can choose a plan whenever you like.
- During the trial you can use 60 tutor messages (up to 20 a day) and 2 study guides or tests. You can subscribe at any time during the trial. Your paid plan then starts on the day you pay.
- One trial per person: we may end a trial early if several accounts are made to get more than one.
Prices are in South African rand and include VAT if we are VAT-registered (Not VAT-registered).
How billing works
- Payments are processed securely by PayFast. We never see your full card details.
- Scholar and Matric & Varsity Pro are monthly subscriptions. You pay for the first month straight away, and your subscription renews automatically every month on the same date until you cancel. We show this clearly before you pay.
- The Semester Pass is a single payment for 5 months of Scholar. It does not renew and there is nothing to cancel. You can pay by card or Instant EFT. If you buy another pass while one is running, the new months are added to the end.
- If a renewal payment fails, we'll let you know. If it isn't sorted out, your plan ends. Your lessons and notes are kept, and you can choose a plan again at any time.
- Monthly limits reset at the start of each calendar month.
Cancelling
- Cancel any time on your Plan page. There's no cancellation fee.
- Your paid plan carries on until the end of the month you've already paid for. It then ends, and you keep all your lessons and notes.
- Cancelling stops future payments. It doesn't delete your account; you can do that separately in Settings → Your data.
Refunds
- 7-day money-back guarantee: if you cancel within 7 days of your first payment for a paid plan (or ask us to, for a Semester Pass), we refund that first payment in full, even if you've used Qondi in that time. This covers your cooling-off right under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
- Refunds go back to your original payment method within 30 days, as that Act requires.
- After the first 7 days, payments for months that have already started aren't refunded, but you keep access until the end of that month.
- If we can't provide the service you paid for because of a problem on our side, or if we make a change that you don't accept (see our Terms), we'll refund the unused part of your payment.
Price changes
We'll tell you at least 30 days before a price change affects your subscription. You can cancel before then if you don't want to continue.
Parents and guardians
Paid plans for learners under 18 must be bought by a parent or guardian.
