Forces on an incline
3.1 A 5 kg block rests on a rough slope inclined at 30°. Draw a free-body diagram.
3.2 Explain why the frictional force on the block acts up the slope.
3.3 Calculate the minimum coefficient of static friction needed to keep the block at rest.
What's tripping you up?
why does friction point up the slope?
Good question. Before we talk about friction: if the slope were perfectly smooth, which way would the block move?
Press Alt X, or click the Qondi button in your toolbar. The page holds still so you can snip.
Drag a highlighter box around the question, graph or paragraph. Drag the corners to adjust.
Type or tap the mic and say what's confusing (or don't), choose Explain, Just a hint, Check my work or Quiz me, and press Enter.
Tip: highlight any text, right-click, and choose Ask Qondi about it. Or press Alt Q on any page to open the quick Qondi chat.
Qondi is on its way to the Chrome Web Store, where it will be one click. Until then, it takes about two minutes.
The extension can't see your pages until you press the shortcut or click the Qondi button, and it only sends the part you snip, when you press Ask. It doesn't read your browsing history, run in the background or track you. It signs in with your normal Qondi account, so there are no extra passwords or keys. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
